FA Cup star Jonathan Franks is determined to repeat his First Round heroics and fire Pools through to Round Three of the competition this weekend.
The attacker helped himself to both goals as Pools saw off East Thurrock United 2-0 at Victoria Park in Round One and now he’s got Blyth Spartans in his sights and he’s gunning for more glory.
“It’s a very exciting tie,” Franks told us.
“It’s obviously that little bit extra special because it has a derby feel to it and they’re bringing a few fans so I am sure the atmosphere will be pretty good too.
“I do want to try and build on what I did in the last round. I was pleased to get a couple of goals that day and help us through to Round Two so my target now is to try and get on the scoresheet again.
“Hopefully if we can get a couple of goals early on in the game then that can settle things down and make sure they can’t get any sort of foothold.
“We controlled the game well against East Thurrock and didn’t give them too many chances – so if we can do similar on Friday and be more ruthless in the attacking third then we’ll get the result.”
“It’s probably a good time for the FA Cup to come around for us so that we can put the league to one side for a week and concentrate all our efforts on getting in to Round Three.
“They’ll be up for it, there’s no doubt about that but we have to match that and I’m confident we will so once we get the first goal we have to go on and get a second and kill the game off.”
