Pools Youth Team put in an impressive performance to beat Rotherham United 6-3 on Saturday.
John Hewitson’s side started the game brightly and pressed the opposition from the off, forcing mistakes and setting a good early tempo.
The first goal of the game came from Dylan Armstrong who hit a great freekick from 30 yards to open the scoring.
Ten minutes later Jordan Jewson ran through to chip the Rotherham keeper from 40 yards to make it 2-0.
Jack Blackford was next to get involved as he kinked between the full back and centre half to round the keeper and square to one of Pools’ trialists but the chance went wide.
The Millers grabbed a goal back before the interval, largely against the run of play and the teams went in at 2-1 at half time.
Pools continued their pressure into the second half and Dylan Armstrong quickly made it 3-1 before bagging his hat-trick with another impressive freekick.
And it was Amrstrong who got Pools’ fifth and his fourth when he controlled the ball neatly inside the area, skipped past two defenders and the keeper to slot home into an empty net.
Jack Blackford made it six when he cut in from the left to fire home into the top corner and complete Pools’ scoring for the afternoon.
Rotherham grabbed two consolation goals as Pools reduced their pressure but it was a good outing for Hewitson’s side, particularly with so many injuries to the squad,
“We had four lads out injured, two away with the First Team and one suspended so it was a young side for us going into the game,” Hewitson told hartlepoolunited.co.uk.
“But overall we were delighted with the result and performance. They showed a great attitude and desire and we were worthy winners.”
