Jonathan Franks scored twice as a youthful Pools side ran out comfortable 4-1 winners in their pre-season friendly outing at Spennymoor Town on Monday evening.
And Pools struck first midway through the first half when Franks got in to good space in the penalty area before feeding Lewis Hawkins who dropped his shoulder to buy a yard and producing a neat finish.
Connor Smith had a good opportunity to double Pools lead when he skipped around the keeper with the ball but the home defender did well to get back and put him off and the danger passed.
Moments later Pools did take a 2-0 lead when the referee awarded a contested penalty and Jordan Richards stepped up to convert from twelve yards.
The referee evened things up just after the break when he pointed to the spot for Spennymoor despite limited contact in the box and Taylor fired home from the penalty to make it 2-1.
Smith and Franks both came close to restoring Pools’ two goal advantage before Franks showed great skill to dribble his way in to space and fire an unstoppable finish to make it 3-1.
And just minutes later Franks doubled his tally for the evening with another smart finish to settle the encounter and finish off any hopes the hosts had of a comeback.
Town did have a chance to reduce the arrears in the closing stages but the crossbar came to Pools’ rescue and they secured a deserved 4-1 victory at The Brewery Field.
