Colin Cooper has told his players they will need to reproduce the grit and determination on show last weekend if they are to get anything from Saturday’s trip to Cheltenham Town.
The Pools boss was thrilled with the desire the team showed to come from a goal down to defeat AFC Wimbledon last week as they celebrated their first win of the new campaign.
However, they face another difficult assignment this weekend when they travel to a Cheltenham side who are unbeaten in the league and on the back of an impressive win at Tranmere Rovers.
“Watching Cheltenham, reading and listening to coverage in the press and listening to Mark (Yates, Cheltenham boss), they have every reason to be very confident,” Cooper told Pools Player.
“They’ve started the season excellently; last week in particular I don’t think anyone would have given them a prayer at 2-0 down to Tranmere at half time but Mark changed things and they had a six-minute blitz to turn things around.
“They have some good experience in their squad, last who have been around the football block and know their jobs, but in amongst that they have some talented young players too.
“We have to have the same mentality as we did last week – we showed a lot of grit and determination to come away with something and we’ll need to do that again.
“I want to see us roll our sleeves up and really have a go, knowing that the three points we got at Wimbledon will give us the confidence that we can create chances and stick them away.”
