A young Pools Reserves side will travel to Wigan Athletic this afternoon for the semi-final of the Final Third Development League Cup (2pm kick-off).
John Hewitson will lead a side which includes several trialists against The Latics, with the winners of the tie set to meet Mansfield Town in the Final after they defeated Leicester City in the other semi-final.
Jonathan Barber continues in goal with fellow trialists Jack Taylor, James Armstrong and Luke Armstrong also all included in the starting eleven for the Robin Park Arena tie.
“We’re looking forward to the game and it would be great if we could make the Final,” said Hewitson.
“Obviously we have quite a young line-up but it was similar in our last game against Mansfield in which we played well despite falling to defeat.
“We want to see the lads working as hard as they can for each other and then showing their quality when in possession and if we do both of those things we’ll give ourselves a good chance.”
Wigan will prove tough opposition and will be looking to make it to their second Final in a week after victory over Bolton Wanderers saw them in to the Lancashire FA Senior Cup Final five days ago.
They booked their passage to the semi-final stages of this competition in impressive fashion by collecting nine of the twelve available points in the group phase.
We’ll have a full report on the game here on the Official Website following the final whistle.
