Matty Dolan has insisted that Pools are capable of putting together a sequence of improved form – they just need to get that first league win under their belts.
The midfielder was as disappointed as anyone following Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to Wycombe Wanderers, but it hasn’t shaken his belief that things will come good at The Vic.
And Dolan, on loan from Middlesbrough, says that one victory in the league could kickstart the season for Colin Cooper’s men and see the start of much better run of results.
“It was very flat when we came in at the end of the game on Saturday, especially with the first half being as positive as it was,” the 20-year-old told Pools Player.
“I just think in the second half we let them slow the tempo down more and with the goals they got it was just frustrating – but the most frustrating thing is that we know we’ve got it in us.
“I think once we get that first win in the league, the confidence will come through for us to on a run.
“I’ve been in environments where the team has gone on runs of eight or nine wins and that’s what the feeling is like here; it does feel like it is coming, we just have to keep doing the things that gaffer is telling us.
“It would be worse if we were playing badly and not passing the ball or creating chances but you can see in the first half on Saturday and in the Bradford game that’s it not the case.
“I know it’s hard to stick by that and keep saying it’s going to come but it’s definitely there so hopefully we can get that first win and go from there.”
The nature of youth loans means that Dolan’s deal has to be renewed one month at a time but the Hartlepool-born star has revealed he’ll be more than happy to extend his stay at The Vic.
“I’ve loved it so far,” he explained.
“The gaffer has stuck by me and kept playing me so that’s all I can ask for really.
“I get on really well with all the lads, we see each other out of training as well, so if the clubs can get talking I see no reason why we can’t get another month sorted.”
