Colin Cooper paid tribute to his players after they recorded their first league win of the season by seeing off Accrington at Victoria Park.
The Pools boss conceded that the team should probably have enjoyed a more handsome margin of victory but refused to be critical after the 2-1 triumph.
Cooper says that the challenge that lies ahead is ensuring that the standard is not only maintained but raised in forthcoming games.
“I’m just going to be very positive and say that it’s nothing more than we’ve deserved for weeks,” Cooper told Pools Player.
“I think, in all fairness, other than a twenty-minute spell towards the end of the game we put Accrington to the sword and could have won by five or six.
“It was lovely to see the two goals coming from some nice interplay but when you have a team on the ropes like that you have to finish them off and we didn’t quite do that at the start of the second half.
“Fair play to Accrington, they’ve thrown the kitchen sink at it towards the end and getting that goal gave them something to go at and there was some anxiousness in our game.
“But overall I’m really, really pleased and now we can’t afford to take our foot off the pedal, it has to be full steam ahead for Bristol next weekend.”
