Pools Reserves return to action after a four-week break tonight when they make the trip to face Mansfield Town in the Central League East (7pm kick-off).
Craig Hignett is looking forward to seeing his side perform once again, and admits it’s been a frustrating time for the players on the fringe of the First Team.
“It has been really difficult to go so long without a fixture at Reserve level,” he explained.
“Players need game time; we organised a friendly with Gateshead to keep them ticking over but apart from that they’ve seen very little action.
“As a player you want to show the manager you’re worthy of a place in his team and the way you do that is by performing for the Reserves.
“It’s been frustrating but now we have a little run of fixtures in consecutive weeks so this is a chance for them to show what they can do and make it hard for the manager to ignore them.”
Pools have once again named a relatively young side though Sam Collins will operate at the heart of the defence and James Poole is partnered by Nialle Rodney in attack.
The game will take place at Mansfield’s One Call Stadium and admission is free for all supporters.
We’ll have a full report and reaction here on the Official Website after the final whistle this evening.
