Earn The Right To Play - Cooper

6 September 2013

Colin Cooper has warned his players they can’t afford to take their foot off the pedal as they prepare to welcome Wycombe Wanderers to The Vic on Saturday.

The Pools boss was thrilled with the team’s 5-0 thumping of Bradford City on Tuesday evening but has demanded that his players do not get complacent about what is required.

Wanderers are three unbeaten and in good form themselves, so Cooper knows his players will need to get the basics right on Saturday to earn the right to play.

“You see a different atmosphere back in training after a win like Tuesday – they generally feel good about themselves,” he told Pools Player.

“It’s our job to keep that going because confidence is a massive thing in football and hopefully it’s given us the boost to push on now.

“We have to be wary because Wycombe will be tough opposition because they’ll be feeling good about themselves after a run of good results too.

“What we have to do is make sure we do the hard work, the cornerstones of any football match – and then hopefully that will allow us to go and express ourselves like we did on Tuesday night.

“We’re desperate to get off on a run in the league and get that first win; I always believe you have to make sure you don’t lose first to give yourselves the chance to go and win the game, just like we did in the first fifteen minutes against Bradford.

“I would love for us to go and perform with the freedom we did in midweek again on Saturday – but if I’m being brutally honest I would take a 1-0 right now!”
