James Poole blasted home the winner for Pools at Sheffield United on Tuesday night and then insisted there is plenty more to come from Colin Cooper’s young side.
The front man volleyed the decisive goal nine minutes before half time at Bramall Lane to heap more misery on The Blades and secure Pools’ second successive away triumph.
It was the 24-year-old’s third goal of the season and afterwards he told the Pools fans that he and his team-mates are definitely capable of even better under the guidance of Colin Cooper and Craig Hignett.
“I don’t think anyone can say we nicked it or we got lucky – we were full value for the win,” Poole told Pools Player.
“The management drew up a game plan; we all knew what jobs we needed to do and we stuck to it, and if you have a full team doing that then you’ll get your rewards.
“I don’t want to say it was comfortable because the lads were knackered in the changing rooms at the end and we all worked so hard.
“But I think the positive is that we all feel there is so much more to give – it was a dogged performance and we more than matched them, but as group we know we have more quality.
“It’s a good thing if we can win when we’ve not played as well as we can though, that definitely bodes well for the future.
“The biggest thing was to carry the momentum from Saturday into the game on Tuesday and we did that; now we have to carry that on at Exeter this weekend.”
