Boss Looking For Repeat Performance

11 October 2013

Colin Cooper has challenged his team to round-off a perfect week on the road by bringing home another victory from Saturday’s game at Exeter City.

The Pools boss has overseen excellent away triumphs at both Mansfield Town and Sheffield United in the past seven days but has demanded that the players do not take their foot off the pedal.

Their weekend hosts are in good form themselves having won three of their last four games and have failed to take three points in just one of their five outings at St James’ Park this season.

But Cooper is content for his side to once again travel with the underdogs tag, for he reckons this can help strengthen the growing spirit in the dressing room.

“I’m happy with that; people can keep saying they don’t fancy us because I think that gives us a better opportunity to create a siege mentality,” he told Pools Player.

“Little Hartlepool from up north, that sort of thing – well, keep saying it for my money because as far as I’m concerned we’re alright.

“We’re competing, we’re creating chances and we’re winning games so they can write us off as much as they want because that just makes my job easier in terms of motivation.

“If people aren’t giving us a chance what are you going to do? Roll over and die or stand up and put your bodies on the line? I think we did the latter at Mansfield and at Sheffield United.

“The only problem is that, in football, you always have to do it again – and the challenge for the players now is to recreate what they’ve been doing at Exeter on Saturday.

“Paul (Tisdale) has them playing some decent football and their home form is very strong, but away from home we’ve done well.

“We’ve created chances in every game we’ve played so if we work hard and can be solid and compact, then we’ll give ourselves the opportunity to get something this weekend.”
