Colin Cooper admitted all of his players deserved a pat on the back after seeing them defeat League One outfit Sheffield United in tonight’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie.
“I thought we defended very well, in numbers at times, b after the game. Pools Playerut then even our lads are saying we can actually play better so that’s great that they actually want to get better,” Cooper told
“Sheffield United hit the bar in the first minute which was a scary moment but I thought other than that we absorbed and counter-attacked nicely but not as effectively as Saturday gone.
“I think when we’re playing away from home because of what we have available I think if we’re organised, compact and disciplined, we have the ability to counter attack.
“Everybody has to take a pat on the back after that, we’ve come off the back of a nice victory and got a nice victory again.
“All I keep saying is the newspapers and the coupons have got us down to get thrashed on Saturday. That’s what they had us down for at Mansfield so it’s an ‘us against the world’ mentality and we have to have that.”
And as well as praise for his players, Cooper was also quick to pay tribute to the travelling Pools fans who again turned out in their numbers to back the team this evening,
“I’ve said from very early on, we want to give them something to smile about.
“Those fans have come and supported their Club and supported their Club very well and hopefully they are going home happy that we’ve progressed and happy that we’ve got another win under our belts.”
