Colin Cooper admitted that he loved his first taste of the FA Cup as a manager after seeing Pools defeat League One Notts County in the First Round at Victoria Park.
The Pools boss was once again proud of the desire and determination of his players during a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Shaun Derry’s Meadow Lane outfit.
“I’m really pleased because on the back of what we’ve achieved of late, an FA Cup tie at home has that little bit of extra spice,” Cooper told Pools Player.
“We’ve been on a cracking run but today had that little bit of extra tingle and I have thoroughly enjoyed the whole afternoon.
“I thought they set out with a definite game plan; they got in our faces and put us under pressure and inside the first eight minutes there were three pretty hefty tackles which showed their intent.
“I have to say I thought our players stood up to that and we were the better team on the day; in the end they had to resort to lumping it in to our box and hoping for a lucky knock down.
“That’s a real pat on the back and a show of respect as to what teams have to do to try and beat us at the moment in time.
“I was chatting to someone who said there was a buzz about the town at the minute and that’s music to my ears – I want the team to be proud of playing for Hartlepool and the town to be proud of the team.
“Hopefully they are at the minute because the work rate, attitude and application that the players are showing is second to none.”
