We preview Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two fixture against Portsmouth at Victoria Park (3pm kick-off).
Hartlepool United v Portsmouth
Sky Bet League Two
Saturday 30th November 2013, 3pm
Pools will seek their fifth consecutive league victory on home soil when they host struggling Portsmouth at Victoria Park this weekend.
Portsmouth fans will be hoping that the next managerial appointment proves a long-term and successful one following the departure of Guy Whittingham earlier this week.
They once again turned out in huge numbers on Tuesday evening to witness a fifth successive defeat when ten-man Southend United came from a goal down to add further misery for the South Coast club.
After operating in the top flight as recently as 2009/10 it’s been a turbulent few years for the club’s long suffering supporters and they arrive at The Vic lying 18th in the League Two table.
Conceding goals has been one of the major problems so far this term; the Fratton Park outfit have already leaked 30, a record only equalled by second-bottom Torquay United.
A 0-0 draw at Victoria Park in February was of little use to either side as they attempted to battle against relegation from League One last season.
It was a point gained on the back of an enjoyable 3-1 victory at Fratton Park the previous month, secured thanks to goals from Jack Baldwin, James Poole and Greg Rutherford.
Saturday will only be the seventh time the two sides have met in competitive action and only the third time in the last 34 years.
