Pools Reserves are in action for the final time before Christmas tonight when they take on Scunthorpe United at Glanford Park (7pm kick-off).
Jack Compton and Antony Sweeney are both set to start for Pools in the Central League encounter against The Iron with the team once again led by Sam Collins.
Josh Nearney is the only starter that is not on a professional contract, but the bench is made up of Youth Team players including Ben Wignall who scored a hat-trick against Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.
The Reserves hammed Rotherham United 9-0 in their last outing a fortnight ago but will expect a tougher assignment tonight against a Scunthorpe side who were narrowly beaten 2-1 when the teams met in September.
“It will be a much more difficult test, I’m sure Scunthorpe will name a stronger side tonight,” Collins told us.
“I know they had an FA Cup replay last night but I am still expecting to see a few professionals in their line-up so we’re looking forward to a competitive game.
“Jack Compton is in there to try and build up his sharpness after a three-game suspension and get a bit of a fitness boost, he was keen to play in the game for that reason.
“And Antony Sweeney has been back from his injury and has found it hard to get back in to the First Team because of the way they’ve been playing so he wants to press his claims again tonight.
“To be fair to all the lads, they’re itching to get games under their belts so that makes it easier for me because it gives us a nice blend in the line-up.”
We’ll have a full report on the game from Glanford Park following the final whistle.
