Pools supporters have voted James Poole as the winner of the 2012/13 Michael Maidens' Goal of the Season award.Poole's skilful strike against Notts County at Victoria Park in February attracted the most votes after we released a nine-goal shortlist here on the Official Website.
The front man judged Jonathan Franks' deep cross to perfection, lifting it back over the defender's head with a sublime first touch before despatching a volley in to the top corner with the same foot.
"I think I would have to say it's probably the best goal I've ever scored," admitted Poole, despite an array of eye-catching goals on his showreel.
"It might not look the best because it doesn't fly in to the top corner from thirty-five yards or anything, but technically I was really pleased with the goal.
"I like to try things like that - it's something that's always been in my game so to be able to lift it over the defender's head and then hit it without it bouncing was very satisfying.
"I read a report afterwards saying that I could have just hit it first time but that option didn't even enter my head - watching it back I suppose I could have really but it wouldn't have been as good!"
Poole beat off strong competition from Ryan Noble's spectacular volleyed effort at Bury to secure the accolade, succeeding Luke James who won it in 2011/12.
