Preview: Pools v Walsall

22 March 2013

We bring you the definitive guide to Saturday's League One game against Walsall at Victoria Park (3pm kick-off).

npower League One
Hartlepool United v Walsall
Saturday 23rd March 2013
Kick-off: 3pm

The Opposition
A stunning run of form since Christmas has turned Walsall in to genuine promotion contenders in League One and they currently sit just three points outside the play-off positions.

Few would have predicted them having a tilt at the top six prior to the festive season when they endured a run of thirteen games without a win stretching back to the start of October.

But the form of Will Grigg in particular has helped boost their play-off credentials, as the youth product came of age this season and has fired in eighteen goals so far.

They arrive at The Vic having lost just once since the turn of the year, along the way picking up an eye-catching 31 points from a possible 42.

Head To Head
November's 1-1 draw at The Banks's Stadium was typical of recent encounters between the sides - it was the third consecutive time the two had shared the points.

Saturday will be the 53rd encounter between the sides and it's been pretty even over the years with The Saddlers enjoying 18 wins to Pools' 17.

It's a fixture that has often provided goals over the years but has regularly gone with home advantage - Walsall have one at The Vic just once in their last seven visits.
