John Hughes has heaped all the praise for Pools current good form on the players - and challenged them to extend their unbeaten run against Doncaster Rovers on Saturday. The Pools boss says that he will take none of the plaudits for the upturn in fortunes which has seen the team take 17 points from the last 21, and insisted that it's been the players themselves that have brought about the change.
Now he wants them to continue to play without fear in the remaining twelve games in a bid to claw the Club clear of the bottom four in League One.
"I refuse to take any credit for it - all the credit has to go to the players," Hughes told Pools Player.
"I've seen leaders of men in there, guys grabbing their team-mates by the scruff of the neck and saying 'come on, let's get going' and demanding of each other.
"That's transmitting itself on to the pitch and, lo and behold, we've put a good run together. Why can't we go unbeaten until the end of the season now? What's stopping you? What are you afraid of?
"If you turn round in the tunnel and see ten guys ready to fight, ten guys you trust and believe in then that should get you going.
"We've got to give it our best shot - we might concede an unlucky goal, we might get turned over, but at the end of the day you have to be able to sit in the dressing room and say you gave it everything you've got.
"If we do that from now until the end of the season just as it was evident against Crewe on Tuesday night, then I think we'll win more games than we'll lose."
Saturday's game marks the stiffest test yet since Pools' form revival but, typically, Hughes is relishing the chance to go and put one over on the side sitting at the top of the table.
"They have real aspirations to go and win the league," he told us.
"They're a good side and they have some right good players so we know we'll have to go there and be at our best.
"When Brian Flynn took over I think he said they were the best team in the league and I'm not going to disagree with him, he knows his stuff.
"That makes us massive underdogs so we'll take that on board and see what happens - all through my career I've played against better players but always managed to come out on top.
"We've got nothing to lose so let's go there and show we're a match for them."
