Alan Goodwin is next up in our new feature looking back over the years at The Vic.
This summer we’re on the search for the greatest game, goal and player ever seen at Victoria Park and we’ve already had a brilliant response to our survey.
There is plenty of time to get involved but to get your memory going we’re going to share with you some of the thoughts of fans who have already had their say…
Name: Alan Goodwin
What is the greatest game you’ve seen at Victoria Park?
Pools 8 Grimsby Town 1, 13th September 2003
Tell us your memories of the game you selected.
Their manager scoring an own-goal to put us one up, and Paul Robinson delivering a hat-trick that nobody could have predicted. Us Poolies were euphoric by the end of it and I couldn't wait to buy the DVD which sits proudly in my collection!
What is the greatest goal you’ve seen at Victoria Park?
Hugh Robertson v Luton Town, 6th April 2004
Tell us your memories of the goal you selected?
I was stood behind the goal in the Town End. I remember the noise the ball made as Shuggy made the sweetest of connections. The ball was hit so hard it almost literally came through the net, as I'm sure a couple of the pegs keeping the net in place flew out of the ground! The keeper only began diving once the ball was in the goal.
Who is the greatest Pools player you’ve seen at Victoria Park?
What are your memories of the player you selected?
Gutsy, determined, skillful, but most of all an outright passion for the game and the Club that all of us on the Rink End adored him for. Forever a Club legend, it's hard to imagine Jackie will ever be bettered.
