Jonathan Franks has said he will be keen to impress on Saturday as Pools step up their preparations for the new season with a friendly against Middlesbrough at Victoria Park (3pm kick-off).
The Pools star has looked a threat down the right wing during the opening games of pre-season and was the architect for Antony Sweeney’s opening goal in the win over Whitby Town on Wednesday night.
And now he wants to turn it on again at the weekend as Pools welcome his former club to The Vic for their first run-out on home soil.
“I’ll definitely be looking forward to it,” Franks told Pools Player.
“There will be a few old faces there with Middlesbrough so I will want to impress and hopefully I can help us get one over on them.
“It will be a tough game for us though and another step up in level so we will need to push on now.
“We’ve missed playing in front of our own fans, but we trained on the pitch earlier this week and it looks brilliant so I can’t wait to get out there and play on The Vic again.
“We’ve had a good few weeks under the new gaffer and the new regime and I think the lads have moved on to the next level in terms of fitness.
“The gaffer has been pleased with our fitness but he’s told us he’s going to push us harder so we have to be ready for that and hopefully it can help us start the season well.”
