Pools star Simon Walton is determined to start erasing the pain of relegation by helping Colin Cooper’s men get off to a flying start in the new campaign.
The midfielder is honest enough to admit that he was unhappy with his own form during his first season at the Club and is focused on showing his true colours in 2013/14.
After a gruelling first three weeks of pre season, the 25-year-old has insisted that he feels ready physically and mentally for the task that lies ahead and can’t wait to get going.
“I’ve said many times I wasn’t pleased with my performance over the whole of last season,” Walton told Pools Player.
“I’m not daft enough to be unaware of that myself, so this year I have a point to prove – more to myself than anyone really.
“When the season goes like it did then there are doubts that can creep in so, more than anything, I just want to hit the ground running this year.
“I think I am in better shape than I was, and my head is in a better place so I’m really looking forward to starting the season and I think all the other lads are too.
“It’s a clean slate for everyone and it’s up to all the lads to impress and try to get in the starting eleven or on the bench.
“There is still plenty of stuff to work on as you’d expect at this stage of pre season but we’re all in good sprits and there is a buzz about the squad at the minute.”
