Middlesbrough are set to field their strongest side on Saturday when they visit Victoria Park for a pre-season friendly (3pm kick-off).
The Championship outfit are looking to step up their preparation for the new campaign and boss Tony Mowbray feels that his senior players need to increase their match fitness.
Mowbray has several injury concerns which may limit his selection but has revealed he is aiming to put out a strong line-up against Pools.
“We’re getting to the stage, a fortnight away, where the key players need game time,” he told the Evening Gazette.
“They need to start to get towards 90 minutes of football but we will keep giving the young players some game time.”
