John Hughes was left to bemoan what he described as a "crazy five minutes" as Pools were beaten 1-0 by Preston North End at Victoria Park. The Pools boss looked on as his side conceded a goal from a set-piece in injury time at the end of the first half, just moments after Scott Flinders had saved a penalty from visiting midfielder Nicky Wroe.
"It was a crazy five minutes with the penalty and then the goal," Hughes admitted when talking to Pools Player after the game.
"The way we gave away the corner that they scored from was disappointing and it wasn't like they did something wonderful to beat us - we are beating ourselves and we need to do the fundamentals better.
"I felt we were the better team in the first half and I felt we deserved to go in front but in the second half for twenty five minutes we lost our way a wee bit.
"We changed our shape to 4-4-2 and that got us back in to it and we made the substitutions when we felt we had to but it was unfortunate we didn't manage to get the equaliser.
"In terms of the spirit and the effort and commitment I don't think that's in doubt - I think we did enough in that football match to get something out of it."
