Jordan Richards has been ruled out for the rest of the season after being told he needs surgery to repair damaged knee cartilage. The 19-year-old first suffered the injury in training last month but it had been hoped that he could play through until the end of the season before undergoing the operation.
However, Richards broke down during Wednesday afternoon's Reserve game against Grimsby Town and will now go in to hospital on Friday morning for surgery.
"The surgeon's advice was that we should try to avoid the operation until after the season was over and Jordan was keen to do that too obviously," explained Club Physio Ian Gallagher.
"Unfortunately the symptoms have become so bad that we have no other option but to have the surgery done now and get the meniscus in his knee repaired.
"The recovery period for this type of operation is around three months so hopefully that means we can work with Jordan and make sure he's fit and ready to go for pre season."
Richards, who joined the Club when he was just 10, has made eleven First Team appearances this season after impressing in the right-back role.
