FA Cup Second Round Replay
Tuesday 17th December 2013, 7.45pm
Pools will face-off with Coventry City again tonight as the FA Cup Second Round tie is played to conclusion at Northampton Town’s Sixfields Stadium.
Coventry City have made a good start to life in League One this season and quickly wiped away the ten-point deduction they were handed as a punishment for being in administration.
Indeed, the Sky Blues would be sitting in a play-off berth without that penalty having come out fighting this season and scoring goals with alarming regularity.
In 24 games in all competitions to date this term, City have failed to score just three times – no team in the country has scored more league goals so far.
However, it is stuttering home form – well, they currently play at Northampton – that will be concerning boss Steven Pressley as he looks to guide his young squad up the table.
They drew 2-2 there with Crewe Alexandra at the weekend but prior to that lost back-to-back fixtures there against Rotherham (0-3) and Tranmere Rovers (1-5).
Fairly obviously the last meeting was ten days ago when City claimed a 1-1 draw from their visit to Victoria Park in the original cup tie.
The Sky Blues started much the better on that day and deservedly went in front early on through a spectacular strike from influential skipper Carl Baker.
However, Pools looked powerful from the half hour mark onwards and perhaps did enough to earn more than their 77th minute equaliser converted by Andy Monkhouse on the end of a flowing counter-attack.
Head To Head
Colin Cooper has no new injury worries ahead of tonight’s game while Coventry boss Steven Pressley is sweating on the fitness of defender Jordan Clarke.
