We preview Saturday’s opening day of the Sky Bet League Two season as Pools travel to take on Rochdale at Spotland (3pm kick-off).
Pools begin their campaign at Rochdale as part of the Football League’s 125th Anniversary celebrations – the two teams have met more times than any others in this year’s Football League.
Keith Hill returned to Rochdale as boss last season and successfully navigated them away from the League Two drop zone.
A more difficult task lies ahead for the popular Dale chief though as he looks to find a way of repeating the promotion the Club enjoyed back in 2009/10.
Home form was a problem for Dale last term when they managed only eight league wins at Spotland – that will have to improve if they are to mount a challenge at the top.
Hill has been able to totally overhaul his squad during the summer with a host of new signings arriving at the Club – including former favourite Matt Done.
Colin Cooper will have a number of selection decisions to make ahead of Saturday’s game, including whether striker Steve Howard is match fit enough to be included.
Pools did the double over Dale last time they shared a division in 2011/12 when an early season 3-1 win at Spotland was complemented by a 2-0 triumph at The Vic.
In 2010/11 Pools began the campaign at Rochdale with a 0-0 draw though fans of both sides will be hoping for more first day entertainment this time around.
