We preview Tuesday night’s Capital One Cup clash against Nottingham Forest at The City Ground (7.45pm kick-off).
Nottingham Forest v Hartlepool United
Capital One Cup First Round
Tuesday 6th August 2013
The City Ground
Nottingham Forest are among the bookies favourites for promotion from the Championship this season with Billy Davies back in the hot seat for a second time.
The City Ground outfit got their season off to the ideal start at the weekend when they took three points from a hard-fought 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town on home soil.
After missing out on the play-offs by just a single point in the end last term, there will be a real determination to ensure they don’t suffer similar agony this time around.
Still regarded as one of the biggest clubs outside the Premier League, Forest are seeking a return to top flight football for the first time since they were relegated in 1999.
The last time Pools took on Forest was back in April 2008 during the time when the two teams were both playing their football in League One.
On that afternoon it was a late Lewis McGugan strike which proved decisive as Forest enjoyed a 1-0 win on the back of their 2-1 victory over Pools at The City Ground earlier in that 2007/08 campaign.
Pools’ only ever win over Forest came in April 2006 when goals from Joel Porter, Michael Nelson and Micheal Proctor helped them to a 3-2 win at The Vic.
Head To Head
Both managers are expected to make changes to their starting line-ups for this evening’s game with any players who were on the bench at the weekend set to challenge for starting positions.

Perhaps not surprisingly, the home side have been installed as large 4/11 favourites to win inside ninety minutes, but you can get 8/1 on Pools or 7/2 on the need for extra time.
