Better Service Required Admits Hughes

20 April 2013

John Hughes was frustrated that his side didn't build on their lead against Brentford as they were forced to share the spoils at Victoria Park.

Luke James had driven Pools in to a 25th minute lead but The Bees hit back before the break and Hughes was disappointed his side never really got a foothold back in the game afterwards.

"I felt we started very well on a real tricky playing surface," Hughes told Pools Player

"We passed the ball a little bit and got our goal but after that it seemed to scare us out of keeping on playing our football and for the rest of the game it was a little bit backs to the wall.

"We stopped passing it and when you've got wee Luke (James) up front you need to pass the ball through the middle - he's a willing worker but he needs much better quality service.

"We tried to change it by putting Andy Monkhouse up there with him and Ritchie Humphreys out on the left and we threw on the subs to try and get in the game.

"The fans have been different class or us - I'm not bothered if it's Hartlepool United or Manchester United, you have to give your supporters something to sing about and hopefully we can make them proud again in the future."
