U's Appoint New Boss Ahead Of Weekend

27 September 2012

Saturday's opponents Colchester United have officially named Joe Dunne as their new Manager in a Thursday morning press conference at The Weston Homes Community Stadium.

The U's sacked John Ward on Monday following a run of just one win in the last 22 games and have moved swiftly to appoint his successor.

Dunne made nearly 200 appearances for Colchester as a no-nonsense right-back between 1996 and 2003 before a knee injury forced his retirement and he was named Under 17s Coach at the Club.

He had a brief spell as Caretaker Manager in 2009 following the departure of Paul Lambert to Norwich City and went on to become Assistant Boss under Ward.

A very popular figure with U's supporters, Dunne is set to name former Colchester midfielder Mark Kinsella as his Asssistant.

His first game in charge will be against Pools when Neale Cooper's men travel to the Weston Homes Community Stadium this Saturday.
