Pools fans packed in to the Staincliffe Hotel on Thursday night for a Sportsman's Dinner with Paul Merson in aid of the Club's Youth Development Fund.
Over 160 turned out to see the former Arsenal and England star reminisce about his fascinating life both on and off the field - from the drama of winning the league at Anfield in 1989 to the pitfalls of gambling addiction.
Merson captivated the crowded function suite with his stories and was followed at the top table by highly-rated comedian Lee Roberts who brought the house down with a hilarious routine.
An England shirt signed by Merson collected nearly £200 as the only auction item, while a raffle including many varying items also brought in a good return on a very successful night in Seaton Carew.
"It was a really wonderful evening and I think everyone had a great time," said Chief Executive Russ Green.
"We are so thankful to Paul for coming up and sharing his stories with us and making it a brilliant night for Hartlepool United.
"It's so very important that we continue to raise funds for our Youth Development - the owners put a lot of money in to this side of our Football Club but it's vital we do our bit.
"I'd like to thank all the fans who got behind the night and I hope they agree that it was money well spent for a great evening of entertainment."
