Youth Team Ready For Iron Challenge

19 October 2012

Pools Youth Team return to league action at Scunthorpe United this weekend.

John Hewitson has told his young players to maintain the standard when they travel to face Scunthorpe United in the Youth Alliance League on Saturday (11am kick-off).

The Youth Team are in FA Youth Cup action at Victoria Park next Wednesday and Hewitson says that the battle for starting place in that game must act as an incentive.

"It's a massive week for the lads," he explained.

"We're all looking forward to the cup game obviously but we have to concentrate fully on Saturday's fixture first and I'm sure the lads will do that.

"If they perform well then they make my decisions next week that little bit harder so it's up to them to go out there and do themselves justice.

"We may have lost at Notts County last week but I was pleased with the display and I came away feeling that we were the better footballing side.

"We passed the ball around well and created lots of opportunities so we need to do that again on Saturday but try to cut out the individual mistakes."

Hewitson is without Andy Bridges, Kerry Hedley and Ben Wignall who have all been laid low with a virus, while Brad Walker (ankle) and Josh Nearney (foot) are both also ruled out.

The injury problems mean Keiron Green is handed a start in midfield, with fellow Under 16s Dylan Armstrong, Callum Wood and Matthew McCarthy all included on the bench.

Saturday's game will be played at Gainsborough Trinity FC and we'll have a full report here on the Official Website on Monday morning.
