Youth Team Lose Out At Scunthorpe

22 October 2012

A very young Pools Youth Team suffered a convincing 4-0 defeat away to Scunthorpe United at the weekend.

In a busy second half, John Hewitson's injury-hit side saw their mistakes punished by the hosts.

The first half proved to be an uneventful affair, with both teams cancelling each other out and all of the main match action was saved for after the break.

In a disappointing opening to the second half, a defensive slip allowed the hosts through to take an early 1-0 lead.

A mis-placed pass from defence shortly after saw Scunthorpe take advantage once again to double their lead. Zak Boagey and Connor Halpin had a couple of chances to lift the pressure for Pools but both just missed target.

And with the clock counting down, the hosts pounced twice from crosses into the box to finish the scoring at 4-0."We were below par today," John Hewitson told

"We were without some key personnel through injuries and illness on the day and we missed them but we were looking for more from the experienced players involved in the match."
