Pools Reserves return to action this afternoon when they host Hull City at Billingham Town in their first fixture of this year's Central League Cup group phase (2pm kick-off).Micky Barron's men have lost their opening two games in the league and will be hoping they can put that right against a City side who have on their last two outings.
Simon Walton and Ritchie Humphreys are set to start in an otherwise youthful Pools line-up, which also included Luke James who will be employed on the right wing.
"We've got quite a young team compared to previous seasons but it's up to the players in the line-up to show they can challenge for the First Team," Barron told us.
"We saw last night Darren (Holden) and Jack (Baldwin) go in and take their chance against Sheffield United and hopefully that can spur others on too.
"Simon will be in the line-up because he's missed a couple of games with an ankle problem - he came and asked if he could be involved because he wants to get back to fitness and in to contention so that shows a great attitude.
"Luke needs a game as well, he's been with the squad and been on the bench but hopefully he can get ninety minutes under his belt and impress this afternoon.
Pools are also hoping to include trialist striker Chris Winn from Ryhope in their starting eleven but are awaiting formal clearance.
We'll have a full report on the game here on the Official Website later this afternoon.
