We Deserved A Point - Hughes

24 November 2012

John Hughes picked up his first point in charge of Pools as he saw his side fight out a 1-1 draw at Walsall this afternoon.

And the Pools boss admitted just how pleased he was with the character shown by his players in the match,

“I’m delighted with a point, especially with the position we’re in, we’re fighting for our lives.

“At times I think Walsall were a better footballing side than us, I have to put my hands up to that and that's what we're working towards.

“But in terms of the spirit and the effort, we deserved a point.

“With the position we’re in you can still see they’re hanging in there, and we rode our luck a little bit but I’m absolutely delighted we got a point for the effort and the commitment that they gave.

“It’s encouraging that they still showed the tenacity and the spirit to hold onto the game.

“There were one or two little half chances that could have just fallen for us and we might have just stolen it but if we did win it, I think I’d say it would have been against the run of play.”
