Cup Progress For Pools Youth

5 November 2012

Pools Youth Team came from behind to secure their place in the Second Round of the Youth Alliance Cup with a 2-1 win over Bury in Round One.

Dominic Scott made two good saves early on to keep Bury at bay in a frantic start to the game.

With both teams enjoying possession and testing their luck on goal, the first half could have been taken by either team.

As it was, Bury took the advantage, capitalising on a poor clearance to break through a make it 1-0 ahead of the break.

John Hewitson introduced Jonny Wright and Kerry Hedley to the side for the second half and the pair made their presence felt.

Pools really took hold of the game, putting the hosts under some real pressure and they were rewarded when Brad Walker dribbled his way past two Bury men to score the equaliser.

The equaliser sparked a change in tempo as Pools pressed in search of a winner and, when Lewis Green played a great ball into the path of Tom Mitchinson just before full time, the striker slotted home to give his side a deserved winner."Once again the lads showed great character to get back into the game," Hewitson told

"They showed desire and passion and really put Bury under pressure to make sure we won the game."

Pools will now host Rochdale in the Second Round of the Youth Alliance Cup.
