New signing reveals extra motivation behind Pools return
Steve Howard has said that he owes Hartlepool United a huge debt for the way they helped him launch his career – and he aims to pay it off by banging in the goals after becoming Neale Cooper’s third signing of the summer on Wednesday.
The big striker can’t wait to pull on the blue and white striped shirt once again and says that his excitement about a return to Victoria Park was heightened when he spoke to the charismatic Pools boss.
“It’s just nice to put pen to paper and get it all sorted out,” Howard told Pools Player.
“I spoke to Neale and he really sold his ideas for the Club to me – he’s a really bubbly character and you can tell straight away that he’s a motivator and that enthusiasm got me excited.
“In the end it was an easy decision for me to make and it’s great to be back because if it wasn’t for Hartlepool United I wouldn’t have enjoyed the career I have had.
“It’s brilliant that I can come back and repay that debt and try to help the Club progress – I can’t wait to get that shirt on, get some regular football and start banging in the goals.”
Howard’s record against Pools since he left is remarkable – he has hit the net ten times in as many games though he revealed it was always with a heavy heart.
“It’s quite a good record that isn’t it? I’m happy with it and gutted at the same time though really,” he explained.
“Whenever I came back here I got a good reception and for some reason always seemed to do well – but when I got on the coach to go home afterwards I always felt quite guilty so I’ll try to put that right now!”
