Micky Barron to lead team in Great North Air Ambulance event

Hartlepool United have entered a competition to find the best golfing football club in the North.

Pools are the latest club to join the contest, which will raise money for the Great North Air Ambulance Service.

On Tuesday Club Captain Sam Collins, Reserve Team Coach Micky Barron, and team members Evan Horwood and James Poole signed up to take on the likes of Middlesbrough FC in the competition, which takes place on Wednesday 5th September at Rockliffe Hall Golf Club near Darlington.

The general public are also being invited to enter and test their skills against some of the region's most accomplished sportsmen.

The competition is being organised by David Hodgson, former Liverpool striker and ex-manager of Darlington, who hopes to make it an annual event.

More clubs are expected to be announced over the next few days.

Micky Barron said: "We've put a good team of four together for the competition so we are looking forward to having a go at bringing back the trophy.

"It's all in aid of a great charity as well so let's hope we raise a good sum."

A team of four costs £500 and includes breakfast, 18 holes of championship golf and a two-course evening meal designed by Rockliffe's award-winning chef Kenny Atkinson.

Breakfast is available from 10.30am, golf starts at 1pm, and the evening meal will commence at 7.30pm.

Following the meal there will be entertainment from Kevin Connelly, an auction and a raffle.

Sponsors are needed for prizes throughout the day, including longest drives and nearest the pins, plus team and individual trophies. Any auction or raffle prizes would be gratefully received. more information, please contact Ruth Davey at the Great North Air Ambulance on 01325-487263 or email
