Disappointing Day All Round - Cooper

25 August 2012

Pools boss reacts to today's postponement

Having left the team hotel at just after 12.30pm this afternoon heading for Leyton Orient, Neale Cooper and his players find themselves heading back to the North East some five hours later having not kicked a ball.

A serious accident between the hotel and The Matchroom Stadium saw the team coach stuck in gridlocked traffic for hours, meaning today’s planned League One fixture was called off.

And Cooper admits his side were left disappointed having geared themselves up to face Orient this afternoon,

“We had prepared really well for the game. We came down yesterday and had a good training session at Peterborough on the way and the lads were really up for it today.

“It was a chance for us to bounce back after Tuesday night and we’d had a really good few days’ training.

“Everything had gone to plan at the hotel and we set off at about 12.35pm and it should only have taken us around 20 minutes to get to the ground but as soon as we hit the M11 we could see there was an issue.

“We just never moved hardly for three hours – it’s been a nightmare of a day but we heard that the accident on the M11 was a fatal one and that puts things into perspective.”

Cooper also had a word of apology for the Pools fans who made the long journey to the capital for today’s game,

“It has been a nightmare for the fans who spent money to travel all to way to London and we apologise to them for today.

“I know they had mentioned moving kick off back to 4pm but we just weren’t moving and unfortunately that was never going to happen.“
