Pools Youth Team roared back to form with a dominant performance on Saturday to thrash Huddersfield Town 4-0 in the Youth Alliance League.
Having suffered their first defeat of the new season at the hands of Scunthorpe United in the League Cup last Friday, Ian McGuckin’s men were determined to bounce back in style.
And they took out their anger on a Terriers outfit who were pushed on to the back foot for the majority of the contest at Welfare Park in Blackhall.
The opening goal came after a neat move down the right which was finished off with a well-taken volley from close range by Luca Murphy.
Pools had other opportunities during a one-sided first half but had to wait until after the restart to claim their second goal when Connor Rennison smashed home a wonderful goal from the edge of the box after some sloppy defending from the visitors.
A flowing move down the left hand side produced the opening for a third Pools goal which was tapped in from close range by Josh Scott.
And Daniel Boyle rounded off the scoring when he made it 4-0 when he got to Joe Jackson’s low near-post delivery to convert past the Town keeper.
“We’re really pleased to get back on track,” admitted McGuckin afterwards.
“The level of performance was exactly where we wanted it to be and we controlled the game throughout really, getting our rewards for that with three goals in the second half.
“It was the perfect response from the lads; it was a game we were looking forward to and now we have to build on all the positives from it.”
