Pools Youth Team return to action for the first time since the start of December when they host table-topping Grimsby Town at Blackhall’s Welfare Park on Saturday (12noon kick-off).
Ian McGuckin’s men have been left without a fixture due to a combination of bad weather and the Christmas break but he says the players are now desperate to get back out on the pitch.
The Mariners arrive at the top of the pile in the North East Division of the Youth Alliance League but Pools can draw level on points with their visitors if they take the win this weekend.
“The lads are really chomping at the bit to get going,” McGuckin admitted.
“We were really disappointed to lose the Notts County game to the weather so it’s been a longer gap between games than we’d have liked but we can’t wait for Saturday now.
“We lost 2-0 at Grimsby earlier in the season and didn’t really do ourselves justice that day so we’re all keen to make sure we put that right this weekend.”
McGuckin has an almost fully-fit squad to choose from for the game with only Liam Pritchard unavailable as he continues his recovery from a fractured collarbone.
Entry to the game at Welfare Park is free to all supporters so make sure you go along and support the youngsters in action if you can make it.
