Pools Women’s Team will look to bounce back to form on Sunday when they make the NERWFL Premier Division trip to Farsley Celtic (2pm kick-off).

Craig Devon’s side were beaten 7-1 by promotion rivals Durham Cestria last weekend and will be aiming to recover from that heavy defeat in style.

It won’t be straightforward though – Farsley Celtic finished fourth, just one place and three points behind Pools in the Premier Division table last year so will represent a stiff test this weekend.

However, having lost just four league games throughout the whole of 2017/18, the Pools players will be determined to get back to winning ways at Throstle Nest on Sunday.

The game kicks-off at 2pm and entry is free to all supporters.

Pools Women’s Team got back to form with a 3-1 victory against Farsley Celtic on Sunday but they did it the hard way at Throstle Nest.

Craig Devon’s side were left reeling following last weekend’s heavy defeat to Durham Cestria but they were determined to put things right when they made the trip to West Yorkshire.

However, in tricky conditions on a very wet and heavy pitch, Pools struggled to find their rhythm in the early stages and the game quickly developed in to a real battle.

Justine Robinson was denied an opening goal in bizarre fashion when she fired a shot past the home goalkeeper only to see the ball get stuck in the mud befline and Farsley were able to clear.

The hosts took advantage of their good fortune to go in front on nine minutes but the goal only served to spur Pools on and they soon began to impose themselves on the game.

Devon’s outfit started knocking the ball around with growing confidence and made it difficult for their opponents though they had to wait until just before half-time for the leveller when Lottie Portas fired a shot across goal and in to the far corner of the net.

Pools came out with the bit between their teeth after the break and played some exceptional football, passing and moving to create chances and bringing several saves from the over-worked home keeper.

The pressure finally paid off three minutes from time when Hannah Lambert came off the bench to make an impact, unleashing a thunderbolt from just outside the box to make it 2-1 to Pools.

And the three points were made safe right at the death when Pools were awarded a penalty and Emily Stuart stepped-up to score from the spot for a second time this season.

“It was a sloppy start but the turning point was at half-time when the game could have gone either way,” Devon told us.

“We are very happy we trusted in what we were doing, remained patient and knew that the goals would come.

“There were a lot of good performances but a special mention should go to Jenni Duffy-Smith who put in a Player of the Match display.”
