Craig Hignett has paid tribute to the support given to his players by the travelling fans during Saturday’s 1-0 win over Maidenhead United.
A boisterous contingent of Poolies were among a total crowd of 1,330 at York Road and their backing from the terraces was rewarded on the pitch as Niko Muir’s second half goal clinched victory.
Afterwards, Hignett admitted he was taken aback by the noise created by the away fans and was delighted the team were able to send them home happy.
“They were unbelievable,” he told Pools TV.
“They didn’t shut up from minute one to minute 95 – they were just so good.
“When you sit on the bench and all you can hear is that it must give the players a lift because it certainly gave me a lift.
“We’ve come here hoping for a result after two defeats and you wonder how it will go – but the fans were absolutely sensational and I am so pleased for them.”
