The planned Doorstep Club is funded through Street Games and will work in partnership with local authorities to try and engage young people within the two areas that have been proposed.
HUCSF will link into the Local Authority Sports Development to see how we can engage the youth in the local community and any specialized coaching we could be making use of, also Hartlepool United FC will utilize player appearances to help motivate and encourage more involvement in sport, setting the right role models for the future.
HUCSF will also link in with the Police Community Support Officer/ Crime Prevention Officer to help break down barriers regarding law enforcement and direct young people who are looking for controlled safe activities within the local area, which should hopefully reduce anti-social behavior in local hotspot areas where children have little prospects or structured opportunities.
At their core, the Doorstep Club is a fun, exciting and vibrant place for disadvantaged young people aged 14yrs + to play a number of sports, right on their doorstep. DSCs will provide a Club that young people can attend with their friends which is not focused on the talented.
The coaches are local and know-how to provide fun doorstep sport that meets the needs of this target market. We expect most Doorstep Sport Clubs to become a destination in their own right, and to establish themselves as a key part of the local sporting infrastructure.
Doorstep Sport Clubs will also actively encourage participants to go to other points of play: it is part of the Doorstep Sport Club’s ambition to support every participant to develop a sporting habit for life and the young person is helped to adopt the habit by being introduced to many sports in different settings.
