Forces Academy

The Forces Academy opens on 1st April 2019 and is a 39-week project designed to help ex-service personnel overcome barriers into employment and progress into work.

The Forces Academy will deliver workshops around mindfulness, relaxation techniques, coming off benefits, career options and employability, opportunities for work experience and regular exercise and fitness sessions.

The project will get small groups of ex-service personnel together to participate in our Academy programme which is designed to get veterans closer to the labour market as well as becoming more self-aware and helping to focus on a happier and healthier lifestyle.

These groups will concentrate specifically on those that are classed as long-term unemployed (out of work for 6+ months), have not made a successful transition to civilian life since leaving the forces and have multiple barriers to employment such as housing, debt, social isolation and confidence issues amongst others.

By identifying individual needs and working closely with our partner organisations, our aim is to address, reduce and ultimately remove these impediments.

Dean Cartwright who has been working with us for the past 12 months on the Veterans Scheme will be overseeing the project in the role of Forces Academy Employability Co-Ordinator and based on what we know of Dean we are sure the project will be a huge success.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank John Dauncey for his invaluable input into the Armed Forces Veteran’s Scheme over the past year. We are sure without his enthusiasm and dedication the project would not have been as beneficial to so many.

For more information on The Forces Academy, Dean will be contactable from 1st April on 07834 982338 or email
