Front man Billy Paynter arrived at Victoria Park in the summer of 2015, bringing with him the vast experience of well over 400 senior appearances which made him the ideal choice as Club Captain.
The Liverpool-born forward began his career with Port Vale before earning a move to Hull City in 2006 and Southend United in 2007.
However, it was his switch to Swindon Town which really ignited the powerful striker’s career where he scored over 50 goals in three season after striking up a potent partnership with Charlie Austin.
His form for The Robins saw Leeds United move to sign him in 2010 and he then went on to spend two years with their Yorkshire rivals Doncaster Rovers, helping them to promotion to the Championship.
A troubled spell at Carlisle left Paynter eager to prove a point when he signed for Pools and he enjoyed an excellent start, becoming only the second player in the Club’s history to score in their first three competitive games.
Despite having two lengthy spells on the sidelines with injury, Paynter still hit 15 goals during his maiden campaign and was runner-up in both the Fans’ and Players’ Player of the Year awards voting.
