Seventh Heaven For Rampant Youth Team

Posted on: Mon 23 Aug 2010

Pools Youth Team hit back from their opening day defeat by smashing seven unanswered goals past Burton Albion on Saturday.

Micky Barron's men were in rampant form as they simply brushed their hosts aside with a powerful display.

"The lads showed great enthusiasm and desire and they were the biggest factor in a great win," Barron told us afterwards.

"I think Burton let themselves down with their performance but you can't take anything away from the way our lads played - we were superb in every department.

"Hopefully this result can give us the encouragement to go on and build a good run and have a successful season."

Pools were four goals up by half time as shell-shocked Albion failed to deal with the tempo at which Barron's men began the game.

Daniel Johnson was the chief tormentor and he helped himself to a first half hat-trick, while Lewis Hawkins also got his name on the scoresheet.

The second half wasn't much better for Burton as Johnson claimed a fourth of the game, before Jordan Mellish and Christian Selby rounded off the scoring.

"The lads enjoyed the game obviously and that should give us a lot of confidence for the games coming up in the next few weeks," Barron added.
