Scaife Fires Youths Through Cup Tie

Posted on: Sat 11 Oct 2008

Pools Youth Team made it through to Round Two of the Youth Alliance Cup after seeing off Chester City on Saturday afternoon.

Daryl Scaife was once again the hero as his goal just after the hour mark proved enough to send Micky Barron's men through after a game of few chances.

The decisive goal came following good work from Tom Marron and when the ball fell loose for the in-form Scaife he made no mistake from twelve yards.

Earlier Pools had seen a first half opening cleared off the line, while Lee Mason also had a chance to hit the net but his shot was well-blocked.

"I think we just about shaded it but there wasn't much in the game," Barron commented afterwards.

"We defended well throughout as they looked dangerous from set-pieces at times but neither side created many chances really.

"I'm happy that the lads kept their first clean sheet of the season and it's pleasing to get through to the next round."
