Barron Pleased Despite Youth Defeat
The Youth Team fell to a 3-0 defeat against York City on Saturday in their final game of the season at City's Training Ground.
Coach Micky Barron had named a very young side for the game as he looked towards next season and admitted afterwards he'd been encouraged despite the scoreline.
"We had seven Under 16s in the starting line-up and two Under 15s on the bench so it was always going to be a big test for them," he explained.
"I saw in them plenty of positives that have given me encouragement for next season and the experience that these players have gained this year will hold them in good stead for the future."
Pools had started the game brightly and Gary McRoberts fired a good chance wide, while Paul Johnson also missed out after good work from Billy Blackford.
The youngsters worked hard in the first half but their efforts were undone seven minutes before the break when York stole in front after a good delivery in to the box.
York doubled their lead from a corner-kick early in the second half but Pools continued to show heart and battled for a way back in to the game.
However, for all their possession Pools were struggling to create any clear-cut opportunities and paid the price at the death when City made it 3-0.
"The lads looked tired by the end, which is to be expected because they worked ever so hard throughout the game - I was pleased with all of them," Barron added.
Full Time: York City 3 Pools 0
Pools: Herbert, Quantrill, Purvis, Liddle (Evans), Marron (Martin), P Johnson, Ruddy, Haymer, Wakefield, McRoberts (D Johnson), Blackford.
