Danny Wilson was proud of his players efforts in their Carling Cup defeat to Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday.

"It was a terrific performance," Wilson told Pools World after the game.

"We had to do some defending at times and Jan made some good saves but that's what Cup football is all about.

"They pegged us back in the first half and they got in down the sides a few times but we held them out and when we went ahead I thought that would have been enough given the way things had gone.

"To go so close in extra time is a bit of a sickener but the lads should be proud as they put a real battling performance in."
