Disabled Supporters Association
Posted on: Tue 12 Feb 2008
Hartlepool United Disabled Supporters Association ( HUDSA ) was formed in November 2001. The intention was to give people with special needs an opportunity to become an active part of Hartlepool United Football Club, who we have worked very closely with from day one. In the few years that we have been running the association it has become one of the most proactive groups of its type, regularly holding meetings for its members and initiating activities, including visits to other clubs and meeting other disabled associations.
Over the time of HUDSA's existence we have had a close working relationship with Hartlepool United and long may this continue. As well as this we have also have a good relationship with Newcastle United DSA, Bury DSA, and recently we have met some people from Hereford United DSA.
However the best compliment has been to help Darlington FC set up their own Disabled Supporters Association after they had been impressed with our work at both the football and community level.
Over the last few years we have taken part in a number of fund raising events to enable us to purchase our own adapted mini bus.
In 2006 a group walked to Brentford and raised £16,000 for this and coupled with a grant from Awards for All for £10,000 we have been able to fulfill this dream.
As well as this in 2007 a party walked to the five north east league club grounds to raise money for Motor Neuron Disease. Hudsa are actively looking at new and inventive ways to fund raise for a variety of projects and if anyone would like to in anyway please feel free to come along and make suggestions.
For the forthcoming season we have made changes to our membership from June this year individual membership will be £2 and for a family up to 5 the cost of this will be £5. For your membership you will receive discounts at Vue Cinema, Kosa hairdressers, Burger King, Mariners fish restaurant, Ocean restaurant,
The Galley cafe in Middleton Grange with their discount card which will be sent out with membership cards, HUDSA merchandise and a 50% discount at Dominoes Pizza on production of you card.
We feel this is very good value and hope that supporters take up or renew their membership.
If anyone would like to offer any help towards HUDSA please contact neilappleyard@hotmail.com
